Jim Scott is an entrepreneur, investment banker and private investor with a unique blend of transaction, operating and leadership experience and a passion for business. He has thirty (30) years of investing and advisory experience and has completed successful transactions for clients of all sizes – from start up to multibillion dollars.
Through The Scott Company, Jim assists entrepreneurs and business owners in creating long-term sustainable value in their business and advises them on potential exits and liquidity events. As an entrepreneur himself, he understands and appreciates all of the hard work and sacrifice it takes to build a successful and valuable company and wants his portfolio companies and clients to reap the benefits of their labor.
Jim is also the Managing Partner of Littlehorn Investments, LLC, a Denver-based investment fund focused on investing in, or buying, lower market operating businesses. In this capacity, he has deployed capital into many different companies and industries. Littlehorn invests in both debt and equity securities and the average investment is between $200,00 and $500,000. Since its launch in 2006, Littlehorn has grown its investment portfolio by more than 10x and continues to seek new opportunities to deploy capital.
Jim is currently an Independent Director of publicly traded StateHouse Holdings, Inc, (CSE: STHZ; www.statehouseholdings.com) a leading vertically-integrated, California focused cannabis company bringing together best-in-class retail brands, cultivation and a premium retail experience, where he chairs the audit committee and serves on the M&A committee. He is also an Independent Director of Aduro Clean Technologies Inc. (CSE: ACT; www.adurocleantech.com). He has served as a Board of Director to several private companies, including Denver-based PaySimple (www.paysimple.com) and Receptra Naturals (www.receptranaturals.com), and is a Past-President and Board Member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) Colorado. He served eight years on the Board of Trustees of the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver during which he was the Chair of the Finance Committee, a member of the Executive Committee and ultimately Vice Chairman.
Jim also has over 10 years experience as an operator and leader as the President and CEO of two Denver-based companies: Qube Visual (signage and graphics production and installation) and Receptra Naturals (vertically-integrated CBD products).
Jim began his career in investment banking in 1992 at Salomon Brothers Inc. in New York City as a financial analyst in their domestic mergers and acquisitions group. He later joined Swiss Bank Corporation (UBS/Warburg) where he was one of the youngest professionals to earn the title of Associate Director in their corporate finance division. In 1995, he moved to London to assist in launching Warburg's global chemicals investment banking group. Once successfully launched, Jim transitioned back into mergers and acquisitions in London, with a specific focus on cross border transactions.
Jim graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University School of Management with a dual concentration in finance and operations management. He lives in Littleton with his wife Jenny and three children. He remains an avid hockey player and is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified hockey coach.
